Highlights

The waters around Cebaco are a well-known destination for scuba diving, sport fishing, and whale watching. The soft winds present an idyllic setting for sailing and wind-sports.

The native forests are unmatched in their scale and beauty within Panama. Visitors can look forward to endless hours of exploring uninhabited bays, waterfalls, and cliffs.

The few houses currently on the island are located on the North and West coasts, leaving the southern ocean-facing shoreline largely uninhabited and devoid of development.

The island’s highest point, Cerro Chichica, is located over 349 meters above sea level.

Geographically it has an elongated shape, with a width of between 2 and 5 km and a length of 25 km. Large areas of the island are conserved in dense tropical forests. Additionally, there are more than 1,000 hectares of plantation forestland planted to native species.

Cebaco has an area close to 8,000 hectares and is the third largest island in the country, surpassed only by Coiba and San Miguel in the Pearl Archipelago.

On the island there is a small local population that is especially dedicated to sport-fishing.

It has an area close to 8 thousand hectares and is the third largest island in the country (surpassed only by Coiba and San Miguel in the Pearl Archipelago.

It has an elongated shape and its topography is largely flat and steep in the Center all the houses are close to the seashore, with most of them to the north facing Gobernadora Island; a privileged area whose sea is usually calmer, more accessible to businesses and to mainland towns.

On the island there is a small local population that is especially dedicated to artisanal fishing; although in recent years sport fishing has become more popular, this due to the practice of tourists.


Cébaco Island is a natural jewel with endless opportunities for enjoyment and tourism.

Possibilities of access to Cébaco Island

They are a few ways to get to the Island:

By Land:

You can take either a bus or car from Panama City which takes approximately four hours. There are multiple launch locations (Punta Duarte, Santa Catalina Beach, or Puerto Mutis) to get from the shore to the island.

By Sea:

You can sail directly to the island from Panama City or alternative ports of departure. [Add in estimated time to sail there]

By Air: 

You can fly to the island in 45 minutes by private plane from Panama City or 60 minutes by helicopter. The island already has land graded and cleared for the development of airstrips for planes and light aircraft in the medium term. There are many different landing areas appropriate for helicopters.
